Remote & indigenous programmes
This important work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders continues to advance thanks to your valuable support. Bible Society has just published the Yumplatok Shorter Bible after the completion of translation work by our mission partners in 2013. This is now being made available to the Torres Strait people who speak this language and a dedication is scheduled for late 2014. Our commitment to supporting translation and publishing as well as the distribution of translations for Nyoongar, Alyawarr, Wubuy, Pitjantjatjara, Kunwinjku and Eastern Arrernte continued throughout the year for both print & audio Scriptures.
Equally we have worked diligently on a number of Bible based resources including Lord, we belong to you, a Bible verse resource for individuals, churches & organisations who support Indigenous youth in situations of grief, loss or depression.
The Flying Bible Ministry (FBM) relocated its base from Darwin to Cairns. This saw FBM forge a stronger partnership with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) bringing up to 50% savings on maintenance and compliance for the expensive operation of running a plane. We continue to be able to maintain the service to remote communities as the plane travels to almost every state & territory. The plane was also present at the International Air show in Melbourne, where thousands of Mark gospel Flyer’s Bible were made available to visitors.
